About us: a project by ROLL
In briefplasticpallet.info is written by the ROLL technical editorial team. ROLL is an Italian company that has designed packaging for industrial reels and rolls since 2012. ROLL sells reel pallets and roll chocks: we say so here, and we also cite the studies that find against plastic.
Who ROLL is
ROLL designs packaging for industrial reels and rolls. The about page on the ROLL website sums it up like this: 'We work on one subject only: how a roll is stored, moved and shipped' [2].

The business started in 2012 and has traded as ROLL SNC since 2019 [1][2]. Its registered office is in Bregnano (Como, Italy) [2].
What ROLL does
The range covers everything you need to keep a reel in place, from the warehouse to the customer [3]:
- plastic cradle pallets for rolls, including versions for pallet racking;
- converters that turn a flat pallet into a reel pallet;
- roll chocks and wedges, reusable or one-way;
- cradles and stackers for several reels;
- flanges and plugs for 3" and 6" cores;
- folding, stackable metal racks;
- RECYCLO, a machine that separates the leftover material from the core at the end of a reel.
The reel products are made by partner companies using moulds owned by ROLL [2]. According to company data, ROLL holds three granted patents [2]; the first application was filed in 2016 [1]. The catalogue lists more than 90 solutions [1].

Who ROLL works for
Customers are companies that produce or convert reels [1]:
| Sector | What they wind |
|---|---|
| Flexible packaging | plastic films and laminates |
| Paper and tissue | parent reels and rolls |
| Aluminium | foil and strip |
| Textiles and nonwovens | technical fabric rolls |
| Pharma and food | film in contact with the product |
| Industrial recycling | reel ends and cores to recover |
According to company data, more than 70% of products go abroad, with shipments to over 30 countries [1].
The CORES WORLD ecosystem
Every reel is wound on a core. In CORES WORLD ROLL has brought together the companies that look after that core throughout its life [4]:
- MOBA Eurotubi makes cardboard cores and tubes for industrial winding;
- GA.VO. Meccanica builds machines for cutting cores in-house;
- ROLL handles the storage, handling and shipping of the reels;
- RECYCLO, developed by ROLL with GA.VO. Meccanica, recovers the core intact at the end of the reel and sends the leftover material for recycling [1][4].

Why this site exists
Search for plastic pallets in Italian and you mostly find catalogues. Data sheets state load capacities without explaining how they were measured. Hardly anyone covers ISPM 15 or the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) with the sources to hand.
So we wrote the guides we would have wanted to read ourselves: how much a pallet really carries, when you need one for export, what food regulations require, what changes with the PPWR. Alongside them are the pages on reels, which are ROLL's day-to-day work.
Our conflict of interest
ROLL sells reel pallets, roll chocks and other plastic accessories. It does not make flat pallets: it offers only three models, PP69 for pallet racking, PPH1 for hygienic environments and PP08, with a flat deck, for handling at floor level. The rest of the range is for reels and rolls. So we have an interest in speaking well of plastic. We keep that in check with three rules:
- The guides cover plastic pallets in general, with data from many manufacturers, not only ours.
- When a study finds against plastic, we cite it and explain what the result depends on. Examples are the life cycle assessment by Anil et al. (2020), which gives wood a carbon footprint per trip 71.8-80.3% lower (details in pallet carbon footprint), and the hygiene study commissioned by the wooden pallet industry.
- ROLL products appear only where you are looking for a product, and always under the company name.
Editorial method
The guides are written and reviewed by the ROLL technical editorial team.
- Sources: every technical figure carries a number in square brackets that points to the source at the bottom of the page. We prefer standards, EU regulations, published studies and manufacturers' data sheets. If a source is commercial or sponsored, we say so.
- Uncertain data: if we cannot find a primary source, we leave the figure out and refer you to the manufacturer's data sheet.
- Companies: in the running text we do not attribute data to individual manufacturers. Company names appear only in tables, lists and the sources at the bottom of the page.
- Prices: we do not publish prices recorded on a given date. We give indicative ranges, excl. VAT, to be checked with the supplier.
- Review date: every page shows the date of its last update. We revise pages when regulations change, as with the PPWR, or when a reader reports an error.
- Corrections: if you find a figure that is wrong or out of date, write to info@roll-packaging.com with the page and the correct source. We fix it and update the date.

They do not replace manufacturers' data sheets, the official text of standards and regulations, or the advice of a consultant, a designer or your insurer. Load capacities, fire separation distances, tax rules and regulations vary with the model, the installation and the country: check your own case with the supplier or a professional before you decide.
